
The Mental Health Review Tribunal (MHRT) hears applications and references for people detained under the Mental Health Act 1983. The Tribunal members are appointed by the Ministry of Justice. The Tribunal covers the whole of England, split between North and South, each headed by a Regional Chairman. There is a separate Mental Health Review Tribunal for Wales, which is administered and based in Cardiff and a separate MHRT for Scotland.
